Today’s delicious song of the day comes from Scotland based three-piece Lucia & the Best Boys. Following on from the release of their EP ‘Eternity‘ earlier in 2020, the Glasgow natives have given listeners a fresh taste of what is to come off their new record, with a song that is essentially used as a platform to explore the story of pretend that everything is a-okay in life.

Speaking on the release of the single, Lucia explains the song was written a couple of weeks after she wrote their previous single. The song is in its original form. “I was going through during heart-break,” Lucia reveals on the creation of the single at the time, “feeling strong and capable one minute, then distraught and confused the next.” The only way through for Lucia seemed to be to pretend that everything was fine or perfect whereas in reality it was “Perfectly Untrue”. “I can definitely say now looking back that this is the worst solution ever,” she admits, “but also I know that it is just a coping mechanism that people use as escapism.”

I am not too familiar with Lucia & The Best Boys, but after coming across ‘Perfectly Untrue’ and how much it showcases Lucia’s strong performance as a singer and songwriter – with the addition of the overall well-oiled machine that is The Best Boys backing – this makes for a pretty solid first offering in my own ignorant way.
