This Friday sees the release of Australian singer-songwriter Xavier Rudd’s ninth studio album ‘Storm Boy‘, an album – and title track – that essentially came from the inspiration of a “pelican”, Xavier tells Eat This Music.

“A pelican came by looking for a feed. It reminded me of the movie Storm Boy, which was a favourite for me as a kid.”

Walk Away sees the Australian singer/songwriter doing what he does best; belt out melodies and strum chords to the best of his abilities to create some personal, powerful and engaging music, which is exactly the case with Xavier’s new single.

Speaking on the creative process of the album, Xavier explains how all the elements of the album (production, songwriting, time, etc) “all come through differently without even trying,” which Xavier really likes.

“The wooden tones of my instruments ring through on all my recordings, but they do sound different in different spaces which I also like.”

“Storm Boy reminds me of old recordings at times, but also territory never covered as well,” Xavier continues.

Xavier Rudd’s ninth studio album Storm Boy features 13-tracks full of inspirational, engaging storytelling and melodies that fans of Xavier have come to like about the Victorian native. 13 tracks are nothing out of the ordinary for Xavier as the 13 tracks “kind of choose themselves in the end. What fits the theme of the record always shines through,” Xavier expresses in the decision of the tracks placements.

To celebrate the release of Storm Boy, Xavier Rudd is heading out on the road from August 2 to August 25 for a 13-show tour, from Canberra, ACT to Geelong, Victoria with stops off in Wollongong, Sydney, Newcastle, the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Hobart, Adelaide and Melbourne along the way.

For fans that are an anticipation of what to expect on the tour, Xavier assures he will “be playing lots of stuff from storm boy but also a bunch of older stuff,” while also bringing is hold “didge/percussion rig too.”

“I have a new band of incredible musicians with me this year. It’s gonna be a blast.”

2018 looks to be a big year for Xavier as he is heading out on an extra tour of “the States and Canada” before the above mentioned August Australian tour, “and then straight to Europe and the UK via South Africa, so there’s lots happening on the touring front.”
