On Wednesday night I premiered the radio version of Carvel‘s new single ‘Dark Side of Me‘, tomorrow (Friday 6 April) sees the release of the single on all major digital streaming platforms for you to enjoy.

Coming off the release of their previous single ‘Colour Me In‘ back on March 9, the Brisbane four-piece – Timothy, Cameron, James and Tom – have returned with a juxtaposition to their previous single as Dark Side of Me is used as a platform of exploration about breaking free from your negative qualities, and the regret of hurting those you love as you begin to change.

Speaking on the creation of the single, Carvel guitarist Cameron expands on the above statement, as this “song is different, it’s an open book where the bass and drums lay it out for myself and Tim to communicate musically.”

“It’s one of those songs where you never quite play it the same way twice, and I love that.”

Vocalist Timothy continues with how Dark Side of Me is one of the songs the band “feel most proud of as songwriters. Mostly because we can’t really pin any specific inspiration for the track – it came to us naturally and set the tone for the rest of the EP.

I had the opportunity to have a chat with Tim last month on the release of their previous single, you can listen to that below.

Dark Side of Me is the second taste of what’s to come off Carvel’s forthcoming self-titled EP, due out for release April 27.
