Today sees the release of Fresh Violet‘s new single ‘Northside‘, which serves as a fresh taste of what’s to come off the Melbourne-based rapper, multi-instrumentalist, producer and emcee’s forthcoming debut album ‘50 Shades of Violet‘, due out for release in mid-2018.

Speaking on the creation of the single, Fresh Violet explains how “Northside is a fun, bars heavy, slightly grimy track,” which essentially pays homage and tribute to where she lives, “in the inner northside of Melbourne.”

“The verses start as typical braggadocio style bars but I always bring it back round to the Northside and I think it captures the fun, upbeat energy of the people who live here.”

Having already made a name for herself with the releases of Gangsta, Breakfast and No Sheep throughout 2017 and early 2018, Fresh Violet has hit the ground running with her interesting take on the world of hip-hop.

50 Shades of Violet is a landmark achievement for Fresh Violet, as it gives her the opportunity to explore “a bit of everything!”

50 Shades of Violet is an album where you will “see a lot of different sides of Fresh Violet as an artist,” Violet explains. As this is Fresh Violet’s first album, she wanted “to show everyone she could do as an artist, so she decided to make a “project that covers a lot of ground.”

Defining 50 Shades of Violet, Fresh Violet adds, “It’s 12 tracks, all produced by me, two of them are coproduced including this one which I made with my DJ Snoozy, one beat is coproduced by Dom Cork who has also engineered the album.”

Taking inspiration from the likes of Cardi B, Nikki Minaj, Princess Nokia and many others, Fresh Violet brings her own unique electronic mix of R&B and fast rhymes on the world of Northside living.

2018 looks to be a big year for the Melbourne rapper as prior to the release of the album, Fresh Violet is releasing an EP titled “‘Ackbars’, that I’ll be dropping in the lead up to the album.”

Fresh Violet also has “lots of film clips coming out this year,” and “some really big shows all over the country,” with gigs in the works as her next gig is “supporting Butterfingers and Rapaport at the Gasometer on April 1.”

Fresh Violet live:
1 April | The Gasometer Hotel | Collingwood
13 April | Hip-Hop Charity Show | South Brisbane

Fresh Violet’s Northside is now out on digital streaming platforms.
