Somebody Like You‘ is the new single from Melbourne singer/songwriter Shelley Segal and it is a song that is essentially about Shelley exploring her own person struggles – specifically a time in her life when she was 18-years-old and her family weren’t open to her boyfriend as he wasn’t of their same Jewish religion.

Going into detail about how much this situation had impacted her life, Shelley Segal states why she “chose to fight for the relationship with my then-partner, leaving home and moving in with him and his family.”

Shelley Segal continues with the notion of how much the situation was an “extremely painful experience for me.” Adding how she is “no longer religious” but she knows “that many people still experience this tension between their families, traditions and the person they love for various reasons, religion, race, gender, orientation.”

“I know that many people still experience this tension between their families, traditions and the person they love for various reasons, religion, race, gender, orientation. The truth is, you cannot help or control who you love.”

Shelley Segal will be heading out on the road to celebrate the release of the single in Australia from Friday 29 December to Friday 12 January.
