Video Avenue (Vocalist James Walmsley, guitarist Jacob Dunn, bassist Liam Beazley and drummer Nat Patterson) are a four-piece indie-rock from Brisbane and they recently released their debut single, ‘Homewrecker’, which you can guess just from the title itself – the song is essentially about a homewrecker or in the bands own words: “distrust and love.”
Speaking on the single, the Video Avenue’s vocalist James additionally noted how “Homewrecker is a song about going out and seeing someone who is a ‘homewrecker’; someone who prides themselves on ruining relationships.”
“You know the homewrecker is sick of their lifestyle and wants to settle down, but you don’t want that person now; regardless of how they’ve changed.”
As far as first singles go, Homewrecker is a well put together single that offers a whole lot of key elements heard a lot of times before in iconic bands likes Arctic Monkeys and The Wombats, while Video Avenue also add their own touch to it with a great guitar solo at the last 15-20 seconds and James’ great vocal range throughout this three minute and 27 second offering. While this is an indie-rock song at heard, it also contains elements of surf rock.
Homewrecker is a great start for Video Avenue. With six months still yet to go in 2017, it would be good to hear more. Have a listen below.
