2016 was a massive year for Ali Barter with the previous release of her hit single, ‘Girlie Bits‘, which became hugely popular within the Australian music scene, the music video for Girlie Bits was acclaimed too.
However, 2017 is looking to be an even bigger year with the announcement today of her debut album, ‘A Suitable Girl’, which is scheduled for release on 24 March on Inertia Music. The album will feature the first single off the album released today, ‘Cigarette’, the previously released ‘Girlie Bits’, and nine other tracks yet to be released.
“I just wanted to be really honest about my feelings. I’ve done three EPs and I found the more that I did – produced things, explained things, covered things in metaphor – I didn’t feel I was saying things that are true to me. So with this album… I wanted it to be really natural and authentic.”

Ali Barter’s ‘A Suitable Girl’ was put together with the help of producing parter Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy), and mixed between Magnus Lindberg (Sweden), David Tolomei (USA) and Oscar Dawson.
On the creative process of ‘A Suitable Girl’, Ali Barter noted how she explored the process of collaborating with a number of songwriters. From the familiar, Dawson and Stephen Mowat, to Bertie Blackman, Jonathan Boulet and Thom Macken, internationals Sydney Wayser and Harlan Silverman.
