‘They Keep Telling Me’ is the new single by Sydney based indie-pop artist, Phebe Starr. After recently moving to Los Angeles to pursue her music career, Phebe working with Swedish Producer Fredrik Odesjo on the track, noting how she wrote the track after previously working with “two sexist jerks” (sic) that told her to “sit in a room and shut up while they wrote the lyrics,”
“It was humiliating and demoralised the purpose of creativity and the hard work I’ve put in to creating a life filled with it. It’s horrible to have been treated as a stereotype or having to live up to one to be accepted. I wrote this song about my quiet rebellion from those expectations which seem to chase me through life.”
This synth-heavy pop single from Phebe, showcases her talent as a vibrant pop artist in this overly crowded genre of music. Coming in at four minutes and 22 seconds, ‘They Keep Telling Me’, gives Phebe a lot of time to show why she is an emerging talent in the world of music, and why you probably should tell her to “shit down and shit up.”
‘They Keep Telling Me’ comes off Phebe’s forthcoming EP, ‘Chronicles’, scheduled for release on 31 March.
