While I don’t know a whole lot about Vaudeville Smash (Vaudeville Smash consists of Marc & Luca Lucchesi, James Bowers and Marty Lubran.), I’d like to get to know them if they’re as fun as they show themselves to be in their music video for their new single ‘Laura’. The song reminds me of an 80s tune that would fit perfectly in an 80s movie.
‘Laura’ is the first song from Vaudeville Smash’s new album The Gift – which is due out on August 26. Now, from what I can gather from watching the film clip, Laura is the lady with the massive curly hair that has amazing dance moves? Or maybe I am reading way too much into this than I need to. However, the music video – and single in general – features a whole lot of dancing, lights, flute, and amazing vocals by Marc Lucchesi (the lead singer), in a disco-esq anthem with great disco lights work to boot!
Vaudeville Smash’s Marc Lucchesi (lead vocals/saxophone/flute/groove hat weather/sick dancer/and overall cool dude) noted the song takes you o na musical journey full of funky beats:
“Laura is fictional, but is inspired by all the men (or women) who have been eaten up and spat out. It’s a musical journey: flute, synth, slap bass, funk, horns, falsetto. It’s got plenty of hooks but a really interesting song structure – it doesn’t follow your usual verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus vibe. We love the fact that it’s so different.”
Head on over to Vaudeville Smash’s website now to grab more of their music, and get in contact with them on their various social media platforms. As for now, you can watch the funk-disco-esq music video for their great new single ‘Laura’, below. Enjoy!
I have to admit, I haven’t had this much fun watching a music video and writing about it since I wrote about Formidable Vegetable Sound System’s Kimchi. I absolutely love funky music like this that doesn’t take itself too serious at all, and where everyone involved is having fun. I will definitely be checking out some of their other work.
